"Integrating Democratic Education at Stonehill (IDEAS) is an interdisciplinary, student-centered program that fosters engagement and active learning by creating an environment for students to share their passions, wisdom and knowledge with one another through student-led courses."

Students can choose to teach on any topic of their choice and the courses are open to all students at Stonehill. This freedom to teach and learn based on one's own passion's and interests is a vital component of education, particularly democratic education.

Democratic education is a teaching style that allows for each student's voice to be heard, and strives to engage the classroom in a multitude of different ways. Through class discussions, guest speakers, and the ability to cater class topics to personal interests, democratic education allows for an innovative and exciting form of learning.
